Authorize TorBox on Android TV with a device code

Cinaura is a personal media library app for Android TV. It connects directly to TorBox, so your TorBox library shows up on the TV as a real collection with posters and seasons, and there is no media server to run.

TorBox connects through a standard device-flow OAuth, the same pattern Smart TVs use to sign into streaming services. You approve a short device code in your browser and the TV picks up the connection.

  • An active TorBox account.
  • A phone or laptop browser to confirm the device code.
  1. On the TV, open Cinaura → SettingsSourcesAdd sourceTorBox. The TV displays a QR code linking to cinaura.tv/pair/torbox.

  2. Scan the QR code with your phone. The pairing page shows a device code (this is different from the session code on the TV) along with a Copy button. Tap Copy, then tap Continue to open TorBox’s device-authorization page in your browser.

  3. Paste the device code into TorBox and sign in if you aren’t already.

  4. Name the device. TorBox asks you to give the connection a name (e.g. “Living Room TV”). This is optional but makes the device easy to spot later in your TorBox account, and to revoke if you ever need to.

  5. Approve the connection. Once approved, the TV picks up the token within a few seconds and the source unlocks.

The common failures, and what each one means.

  • “Authorization pending” stays on screen: you haven’t approved the device on TorBox yet. Finish the flow on your phone, then wait ~5s.
  • “Slow down”: the TV is polling too frequently. Cinaura handles this automatically; just wait until the next poll.
  • “Access denied”: you cancelled the flow on TorBox. Restart from the TV.
  • The Continue button does nothing: your browser blocked the popup or the tab lost focus. Copy the device code, then open torbox.app/oauth/device directly and paste it there.
  • The device code is rejected or expired: codes are short-lived. Start the flow again from the TV to get a fresh one.
  • Approved on TorBox, but the TV is still waiting: check the TV is online, then leave it for about ten seconds. If nothing happens, back out of the pairing screen and start again.
