Connect SMB
SMB (Samba / Windows file sharing) is configured directly on the TV. There’s no QR code; you enter the server address and credentials once, and Cinaura mounts the share whenever the source is in use.
What you’ll need
Section titled “What you’ll need”- An SMB-compatible server on your local network. That can be a NAS (Synology, QNAP, TrueNAS, unRAID), another PC sharing folders, or any device exposing an SMB share.
- The share name, a username, and a password with read access to the share.
- The TV needs to be on the same network as the server (or able to reach it via VPN).
Connection details
Section titled “Connection details”| Field | Example |
|---|---|
| Server | 192.168.1.10 or nas.local |
| Share name | media |
| Username | cinaura |
| Password | •••••••• |
| Folder path | Movies (optional, narrows scope) |
Connect the share
Section titled “Connect the share”-
On the TV, open Cinaura → Settings → Sources → Add source → Local Network → SMB.
-
Enter the server address. Hostname or IP. No
smb://prefix needed. -
Enter the share name. This is the top-level folder exposed by your NAS or server (e.g.
media,Public,videos). -
Enter your credentials. Cinaura validates them against the server before saving. Credentials are stored only on the TV.
-
Pick which folders to sync. Cinaura connects to the share and lists the folders inside. Tick the folders you want indexed (for example, just
Moviesrather than the entire share). You can come back later to add or remove folders. -
Confirm. Cinaura starts indexing the selected folders immediately.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”- “Couldn’t reach server”: check the IP/hostname is correct and that the TV is on the same network as the server.
- “Authentication failed”: username or password wrong, or the account doesn’t have access to the share.
- Files appear but won’t play: make sure the share permissions allow read access for the user, not just listing.
